It’s no secret in reality TV land that OG “Vanderpump Rules” couple Tom Schwartz and Katie Maloney have gone their separate ways.
Not only did their sometimes-uneasy relationship play itself out on national TV for the last nine seasons of the hit show, in March they did what so many TV personalities do when they have a big announcement; they took to their individual Instagram accounts to reveal to their combined two-plus-million followers that they’re getting a divorce after a dozen years of coupledom and three years of marriage.
The following month, while walking the red carpet at the opening of Lisa Vanderpump’s new and characteristically decadent restaurant and bar in Las Vegas, Maloney told Page Six she and her soon-to-be-ex-Bubba were helping each other find new homes because their shared house was too big for either of them to remain living there alone. Then, last week she posted a heartfelt goodbye on Instagram that showed her sitting on the floor of the empty dining room of their once beloved home that she liked to “dress up like a Hallmark movie set at Christmas.”
It was only a matter of time, then, before the estranged couple’s no longer happy home in the Valley Village area of L.A.’s San Fernando Valley came up for sale. And indeed, it has. With all its Hallmark holiday regalia removed and staged for the selling process with a bunch of generic furnishings, the 3,600-square-foot home is now listed at almost $2.75 million.
Should it sell for close to asking, the former couple will turn a tidy profit on the four-bedroom and four-and-a-half-bath home they scooped up just over three years ago for $1.925 million. Interestingly enough, tax records show they bought the house from showbizzers Mark Duplass and Katie Aselton, who owned the property less than a year and likely never lived there.
Trimmed with inoperable black shutters, the unassuming, white clapboard-sided home was built in 2016 in the ubiquitous “modern farmhouse” style that mixes familiar and comfortable architectural design motifs with modern features and creature comforts. Like so many homes built in this style over the last ten years all across Los Angeles and beyond, the home’s airy, open-plan living spaces are ideal for easy-going entertaining and a relaxed indoor-outdoor lifestyle.
The front door opens informally into a combination foyer, living room and dining room with wide-plank natural-colored white-oak floorboards, fireplace, traditional moldings, and a double-height ceiling over the central staircase. The scene of many parties and a few booze-fueled dustups filmed for “Vanderpump Rules,” the great room’s open-plan gourmet kitchen is arranged around a large island with a spacious butler’s pantry and designer-grade appliances. In the adjoining family room area, full-height glass sliders open to a small loggia with an outdoor fireplace.
Each of the three guest bedrooms has a private bath, as does the primary suite, which offers a fireplace, balcony, and fitted walk-in closet. Not particularly big but nicely hedged for privacy, the backyard squeezes in a patch of grass and a waterfall-fed plunge pool and spa.
Listings held by Stephen Apelian of Coldwell Banker Realty, which describe the property as “celebrity-owned,” indicate the house also offers upgraded security features and built-in surround sound.
Outside of their roles on “Vanderpump Rules,” which Bravo recently renewed for its tenth season, Maloney hosts the podcast “You’re Gonna Love Me with Katie Maloney,” while Schwartz co-owns the West Hollywood hot spot TomTom and is preparing to open a new bar, Schwartz and Sandy’s, in L.A.’s Franklin Village with his BFF and “VPR” cast mate Tom Sandoval.
